The Perfect Delivery
Aug 29
Last night, on the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s famous “I Have A Dream” speech, presidential candidate Barack Obama delivered his acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention. I watched with great interest to see if this man who has inspired me before would do it again. I watched to see if I could detect the composure and character of a possible Commander in Chief.
What I saw, and maybe I am just being fooled slick presentation, was a man with a vision and a passion that has been sorely lacking from the last few presidential elections. I have been in politics for years and I have rarely heard a politician speak where I couldn’t sense that his/her ideas were coming from staff and re-run party platforms. Last night I heard a man with his own ideas and a very clear plan that sounds a lot like the compassion this nation needs right now.
Yes, he said things that make me cringe about renewable energy and providing jobs. Things that sound an awful lot like government interference in the free market. However, he also said a few key things that made me think about something bigger than my preconceived notions of party politcs. Like, “we may disagree on abortion but we can all agree that we should work toward fewer unwanted pregnancies in the first place.” I completely agree with that – don’t you? Isn’t that where the debate should be focused?
He also pointed out that political parties try to make elections about the small divise issues but we have to focus on the bigger issues otherwise we loose sight of our vision and mission as a country. Any good CEO would tell you that is the way to be successful.
Finally, Obama said that he will not engage in character assasination in this election. He said that he believes McCain to be a statesman and he hopes that they can keep the debate on the issues not about tearing each other apart. I find that refreshing. Don’t you?
I am going to listen for the same tone and tenor in McCain’s speech next week. I will be looking for new ideas and compromise. If I hear those things, I will have a tough decision to make. America will have a tough decision to make.
However, as for last night, I don’t think that Obama could have asked for a more perfect delivery.

ok so you took my advice and became a political humorist! Don’t fall for the Democratic Black Camelot, its shinny and has many luminary stars all over it, thats a sure sign its smoke and mirrors. Me a cnynic…….maybe, but I was there for the sixties and if anything is more of the same it is the glorious hope painted by the Democrats while they continue to have their zippers open and their mouths full of undeliverable promises….I still think that you know more than me, lets see what happens because history will be made no matter who takes office. I can not wait to hear your response to the Republican Convention and what is said. I suppose afew vets will be there to lend their support. This man has served his Country once and he showed what he is made of and thart speaks so much louder to me than glitter and hipe without explaining how this will all get done. Oprah has no dog in this fight…..shes not middle class, lacking insurance, married with kids and struggling for work………….what the hell does she know except what is marketable.
